At our 'America’s 250th Birthday' celebration, longtime friend of the Reagan Library, numerous veterans’ organizations, and AFA, Bob Donovan, honored our military by delivering Jimmy Weldon’s stirring monologue “I Am the Flag.”
The piece traces Old Glory’s journey through American history—from Lexington and Concord and Molly Pitcher to Iwo Jima and the Four Chaplains—before Bob led the audience in a heartfelt Pledge of Allegiance.
Among those present were more than a dozen military veterans, including two who had served in World War II, two in Iraq and Afghanistan, and veterans of Vietnam and Korea.
The Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps were all represented, their presence in dress and mess uniforms lending a special gravitas to the evening.
The program also featured keynote speaker Eric Metaxas along with remarks by Trevor Loudon, Dr. Bradley Thayer, Frank Gaffney, and Susanne Reyto.

In this talk, Frank Gaffney speaks on American greatness from the perspective of an American.
He shares a personal encounter earlier that day with Debra Burlingame (sister of the pilot of the plane that struck the Pentagon on 9/11 and a leading 9/11 families advocate), reflecting on the approaching 25th anniversary and past battles such as the proposed Ground Zero mosque.
He recounts her story of an Egyptian immigrant limousine driver in New York who, when asked what he most loved about America, emphatically answered “Freedom, Freedom, Freedom.”
Frank salutes “foreign-born American patriots” (including speaker Susanne Reyto) who understand both the value and the fragility of liberty, praises the audience and the AFA for their commitment, notes the Founders’ year of open rebellion before the Declaration of Independence, and urges everyone to recognize that “we’re making history,” rise to the occasion, take pride and leadership, and ensure the freedoms inherited are bequeathed to the next generation.
Frank Gaffney is President of the Institute for the American Future, a longtime national security analyst, former Reagan administration Deputy (and Acting) Assistant Secretary of Defense, founder of the Center for Security Policy, Vice Chairman of the Committee on the Present Danger: China, host of Securing America, and a member of the American Freedom Alliance Board of Directors/Advisors. He has spent decades warning about threats to the United States, including what he terms the “totalitarian trifecta.”
The event’s keynote speaker was Eric Metaxas; other speakers included Trevor Loudon, Dr. Bradley Thayer, Bob Donavan, and Susanne Reyto.

Dr. Bradley Thayer, an esteemed Fellow of the American Freedom Alliance, delivered remarks at AFA’s America’s 250th Birthday celebration in Los Angeles.
Speaking in the context of the event’s keynote by Eric Metaxas (author of Revolution) and contributions from Trevor Loudon, Frank Gaffney, Bob Donavan, and Susanne Reyto, Dr Thayer argued for civilizational confidence in the West. He framed the American founding and Metaxas’s account of the Revolution within the broader achievements of Western civilization—from Athens and Rome through the Enlightenment—emphasizing its unique contributions of individual liberty, democracy, the rule of law, human rights, and cultural freedom. He warned of assaults from without (notably the CCP and Islamist supremacists) and from within (communist allies and ideas operating in the United States), stressing an inverse relationship between strong American/Western identity and the influence of those threats. Drawing on examples such as the rebuilding of Notre-Dame and the global response to Queen Elizabeth II’s death, he concluded that the West made, sustains, and defends the modern world and has nothing for which to apologize. The short address underscores AFA’s mission of defending Western values while celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
Dr Thayer is a scholar of national security and the threats posed by Marxism-Leninism and the Chinese Communist Party. He is a founding member of the Committee on the Present Danger: China, previously served as a Special Governmental Employee at the Department of Homeland Security (contributing to its 2021 strategic plan on the PRC threat), and has held fellowships at Harvard’s Belfer Center and Magdalen College, Oxford. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and is the author or co-author of works including Embracing Communist China: America’s Greatest Strategic Failure (with James Fanell); a forthcoming book examines America’s long struggle against communism.

Susanne Reyto (Holocaust survivor, author, and longtime American Freedom Alliance supporter) delivered a moving personal reflection on freedom and gratitude at AFA’s America’s 250th Birthday celebration in Los Angeles.
A child survivor of the Holocaust—born in Budapest just six days before the Nazi occupation of Hungary in March 1944—Reyto spent her earliest months with her mother in “protected houses” under Swiss and Swedish protective papers (Schutzpass), enduring cold, damp basement conditions, illness, and scarcity. After liberation and reunion with her father, she grew up under Communist tyranny in Hungary before her family’s difficult escape in the late 1950s, first to Australia and later to the United States. An award-winning author (Pursuit of Freedom and Destination Freedom: Escape from Tyranny), frequent speaker at the Holocaust Museum LA and Museum of Tolerance, and past recipient (with her husband Robert) of AFA’s 2013 Hand of Freedom Award, she is a naturalized American citizen and outspoken advocate for liberty, Israel, and Western values.
In her remarks, Reyto contrasted the fear, scarcity, forced patriotism, and suppressed independent thought of life under Nazism and Communism with the daily miracle of American freedom—the abundance of choice, open criticism of government without looking over one’s shoulder, and the right to build a life of one’s own. She stressed that true patriotism begins with gratitude, that rights are inherent rather than granted by dictators or committees, and that freedom is fragile and never more than one generation from extinction (quoting President Reagan). She pledged to continue fighting for this exceptional country, urged listeners not to take ordinary liberties for granted, and closed by blessing America, its troops, and its ally Israel while toasting another 250 years of freedom over tyranny.
The event’s keynote address was given by bestselling author Eric Metaxas (Bonhoeffer; Revolution: The Birth of the Greatest Nation in the History of the World). Other speakers included Trevor Loudon, Frank Gaffney, and Dr. Bradley Thayer.

New Zealand-based author, speaker and American Freedom Alliance Fellow Trevor Loudon delivered remarks at our 'America's 250th Birthday' event in Los Angeles.
Speaking as a grateful outsider, he thanked the veterans present for the sacrifices of World War II (and later conflicts) that preserved freedom for Allied nations, including his own.
Drawing on a providential view of history, Trevor linked Joan of Arc’s defense of France to the French naval support that made American victory at Yorktown possible.
He stressed that faith and courage are inseparable, citing biblical examples and arguing that divine help has historically favored the brave rather than the faithless or faint-hearted.

In this urgent and eye-opening episode of Parresia, we welcome back national security expert Frank Gaffney, president of the Institute for the American Future and a leading voice in the fight against threats to America and Western civilization.
Frank outlines what he calls the “totalitarian trifecta” — the three interconnected forces he sees as the greatest dangers facing the United States today:
• The Chinese Communist Party and its network of allies, proxies, and enablers
• Sharia supremacists pursuing ideological conquest
• Global elitists advancing world government through institutions like the UN and WHO, along with transnational criminal networks such as drug cartels
The conversation dives deep into the CCP’s strategy of unrestricted warfare, elite capture in the West, massive human rights abuses (including organ harvesting and the persecution of Christians), and the lack of accountability that allows these threats to grow.
Frank also addresses the rapid encroachment of Sharia in the United States, highlighting recent developments in Texas — including the overwhelming passage of Proposition 10 to prohibit Sharia law and concerns over large-scale Islamic projects like the proposed “epic city” in East Plano.
They discuss block voting, the concept of “rape jihad,” institutional capture, the “frog-boiling” effect of incremental threats, and why Western societies have been slow to respond.
Frank explains why Sharia is not merely a religion but a comprehensive political, legal, and military system incompatible with the U.S. Constitution.
The episode closes with practical action steps, including resources at BanSharia.com and the Sharia-Free Pledge for candidates.
A must-listen for anyone concerned about the future of freedom, national sovereignty, and Western civilization.

Just weeks after their powerful live event in Los Angeles, AFA President Dr Karen Siegemund welcomes bestselling author, master filmmaker, and one of America’s most fearless defenders of truth, Dinesh D’Souza.
Dinesh shares his eye-opening journey from socialist India to discovering the abundance, ingenuity, and freedom that define real America. He explains why he has spent decades challenging the left’s big lies and celebrating what makes this nation truly exceptional.
In this wide-ranging conversation, they explore:
- The founding’s powerful blend of Athens (reason and natural law) and Jerusalem (biblical morality)
- How the progressive left is dismantling the pillars of American greatness — strength abroad, free-market abundance, and a decent society rooted in family and civic virtue
- His groundbreaking new film Dragon’s Prophecy, linking ancient biblical events to the October 7th attacks and the eternal battle between good and evil
- The unique threat radical Islam poses to Western civilization
- Why good people must stop being timid and start strategically disrupting the corrupt systems trying to destroy America from within as we approach the 250th anniversary
If you attended or have already watched the June 4th event in L.A. or simply want truth, courage, and hope in these times, this conversation is essential listening.
